Alexis Myre has an astute eye for the “minute particulars” (a term from poet William Blake) of the materials she works with, and a naturalist’s or scientist’s gaze and deep appreciation of organic life forms. She is a kind of artist-alchemist, making us look at material in new and startling contexts, a transformative process. Myre’s constructions, drawings and multi-dimensional sculptures makes one think on issues of dimension, sign and symbol, and the complicated juxtaposition of the transient materials of thread, wire, paper, and organic matter with the “harder” durability of metal, plexiglass and wood. Such combinations and hybrids are arresting and visceral. They possess a unique intelligence and wit.
